Section 100.04

Media Relations     

I. Scope:

This standard shall apply in regards to interaction with various media sources.

 

II. Information:

 

All statements to the media, news releases and media campaigns must be done by the Public Relations Officer and must be approved by the Fire Chief or other authorized personnel, prior to their release except as provided below:

1.     The incident commander is authorized to provide the media with general details concerning an incident.

2.     The Public Relations Officer is authorized to provide the media with a list of incidents.  This information shall be limited to the dates, types, times and locations of the incidents.

3.     Information pertaining to the cause and origin of an incident shall be released only by the Fire Chief or designated representative.

4.     Information relating to personnel matters, department policy, department litigation or other sensitive matters shall be released by the Fire Chief.
