Job Description – Fire Services Coordinator

I. Scope:

This standard shall apply to the full time position of the  Fire Services Coordinator for the Vegreville Fire Department.

 

II. Position Summary:

 

Assists the Fire Chief in the implementation of all fire related functions.

 

III. Duties and Responsibilities:

       

The Fire Services Coordinator shall:

A.   Report to the Fire Chief.

B.    Assist with the development and maintenance of Pre-fire plans for the Town.

C.   Conduct inspections and investigations in accordance with the Town’s Quality Management Plan in the fire discipline.

D.   Develop and coordinate community public awareness activities.

E.    Assist in the development, implementation, support and review of all town related fire by-laws and permits.

F.    Assist the department in preparing and promoting fire prevention activities through school visits, community seminars and a public information campaign, etc.

G.   Conduct a fire extinguisher training program throughout the community.

H.   Assist in the preparation and presentation of the annual budget as required.

I.       Investigate sources of funding for operating and capital purchases and applying for such funds when appropriate.

J.      Assist with the development of an inventory and maintenance schedule for all department apparatus and equipment.

K.   Assist in the preparation, development and maintenance of mutual aid agreements.

L.    Ensure all training evolutions are conducted safely and in accordance with applicable policies.


M.  Participate and support the policies and procedures as outlined in the Town of Vegreville Safety Program.

 

IV. Qualifications:

 

·        Appointed by the Fire Chief.

·        Formal emergency services fire training in structural, vehicle, wild land fire suppression and motor vehicle extrication.

·        Certified Safety Codes Officer or able to obtain such certification within a timeline as approved by the Fire Chief.

·        Basic training in WHMIS, First Aid, CPR and Dangerous Goods.
