Section 102.02

Personal Appearance

 

 

I. Scope:

 

This standard shall apply to all members of the Vegreville Fire Department while on duty or officially representing the department at a public meeting, training session, seminar, conference or other similar event.

 

II. Appearance:

 

Members shall:

A.   Maintain proper personal hygiene during the above mentioned time.

B.    Keep uniforms, when worn, clean and neat.

C.   When not in uniform, while representing the department, dress in a professional manner that is appropriate for the occasion.

D.   Not wear jewelry, pins, ribbons, bracelets, buttons or an article of clothing that constitutes an advertisement, a religious, political or social viewpoint, or a message that is offensive to anyone on the basis of age, color, disability, ethnicity, national origin, race, religion, political affiliation, gender or sexual orientation.

E.    Keep hair clean and well groomed.  Hair shall not constitute a safety hazard and at no time shall interfere with the use of protective clothing or equipment.

F.    Be clean shaven where the facepiece of the breathing apparatus seals to the skin of the face.

G.   Keep sideburns and moustaches neatly trimmed.  They are not permitted if they interfere with the use of protective clothing or equipment.

H.   Limit their use of jewelry to a wrist or pocket watch, a wedding ring and one school or university ring.  These items shall not interfere with the proper use of protective clothing or equipment.

I.       Keep all uniforms both blues and whites, and coveralls clean and neat.

J.      Wear issued neckties with the white uniforms when appropriate.

K.   Wear epaulettes signifying rank on the shoulder boards, on all issued shirts.

L.    Wear name tags, if issued, on all issued shirts.
