Job Description – All Officers

 

 

I. Scope:

 

This standard shall apply to all officers, and senior firefighters assigned to an officer role of the Vegreville Fire Department.

 

II. Position Summary:

 

Leadership positions during an emergency response and day to day operations.

 

III. Duties and Responsibilities:

       

The Officer shall:

A.   Have complete authority as per By-Law #1-94 and the rules and regulations of the fire department.

B.    Resolve promptly, any questions or doubt of the membership relative to the interpretation of regulations, procedures and in emergencies to prescribe the immediate action to be taken.

C.   Cause all incidents to be remedied quickly and with the least possible danger to life, and property, while using proper tools, equipment and procedures.

D.   Have the authority to direct the operation of extinguishing the same or removing dangers to life and property and to take measures to prevent the spread thereof.

E.    Take measures to prevent any risk to members of the fire department.

F.    Prohibit approach to such incidents by any persons, vehicles or thing.  He may remove or cause to be moved and kept away from such incident, any vehicle or thing and all persons not actually or usefully employed in the judgment of said officer in the extinguishment of such fires, removal of dangers or the extrication of victims or the preservation of property in the vicinity thereof.

G.   In the absence of a police officer, have authority to assume traffic control.

H.   Perform other such duties as assigned.


IV. Qualifications:

 

·        Assigned during an Emergency Response by person assigning the Response Board.

·        Appointed by the Fire Chief.
